QRCode Monkey and QRfinity both make free, good-looking static codes with no sign-up, and neither one’s codes expire. The difference is that QRCode Monkey stops there: its codes can’t be edited or tracked. QRfinity adds free dynamic codes you can change after printing, with scan analytics.

Can you edit or track QRCode Monkey codes?
No, and that follows from what the codes are. QRCode Monkey makes static codes: the destination is written into the pattern itself. Its own site says the codes don’t stop working after a certain time, but the content can’t be changed once they’re created. Because a static code goes straight to its destination, there’s also no point in between where a scan could be counted, so QRCode Monkey has no scan analytics.
For a lot of uses that’s fine. A Wi-Fi card, a vCard or a link to a page that will never move doesn’t need to be dynamic.
It matters when something changes after printing: a menu URL, a campaign landing page, a shop that moves domain. With a static code you reprint. A third-party review says that turning on QRCode Monkey’s “statistics and editability” option sends you to QR Code Generator PRO, a separate paid product with a 14-day trial. That product’s cheapest plan with dynamic codes, Starter, includes 2 of them for about USD 9.99 a month billed annually, at the time of checking.
QRfinity puts both kinds in one place. Static codes need no account. Dynamic codes need a free account, have no trial, and keep working whether or not you ever pay. You can change the destination at any time and see total and unique scans, devices and countries with up to 2 years of history.
Where QRCode Monkey is better
- A free API for static codes, with logo and design support. Use beyond 500 requests a day on a large commercial scale means contacting them, and the bulk API exports PNG, SVG, PDF and EPS. We have no API or bulk creation.
- Design options with nothing to sign up for: logo upload, colours including gradients, and custom body and eye shapes.
- Free vector SVG that keeps the full design, plus PNG at a size you choose.
- Commercial use, stated plainly. The site says its free codes may be used for commercial purposes, with no trial and no paid plan for static codes.
QRfinity is new, launched in 2026 and run by a small team. If you need an API for generating static codes in volume, QRCode Monkey is the better choice today.
Where QRfinity is better
- Codes you can edit. Free dynamic codes for links, WhatsApp, locations, app stores and social profiles, with the destination changeable after printing.
- Free scan analytics. Total and unique scans, devices and countries, with up to 2 years of history and no raw IP addresses stored.
- Your design in every format. Patterns, corner styles, gradients, a logo and a frame with text carry through to every format: PNG and JPG for free, and SVG, PDF and EPS with a paid plan.
- A live scan check. We decode the code as you design it, so you find out before printing if a logo or colour choice has made it hard to read.
- One place for both. You don’t have to move to a second, paid product the moment you need editing or tracking.
How to switch
Your QRCode Monkey codes are static, so there’s nothing to migrate or keep paying for. They’ll keep working as long as the destination they point to exists.
Replace a code only when you have a reason to: the destination is changing, or you want to know how many people scan it. In that case, make a QRfinity dynamic code that points to the same page, check it with your phone, and use it on your next print run. After that, you can change where it goes without reprinting.
For new static codes, either tool works. For anything printed in quantity or likely to change, a dynamic code saves you a reprint later.
