Most restaurants need four QR codes: the menu, the guest Wi-Fi, a review link and, if you take orders online, an ordering or booking page. The menu is the one to make dynamic, so you can change it without reprinting. All four are free on QRfinity, and none of them ever expires.
Which QR codes does a restaurant need?
| Code | Static or dynamic | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Menu | Dynamic, so you can update it | Table tents, stickers, the window |
| Wi-Fi | Static: phones join from data in the code | Table cards, the counter, the menu itself |
| Google review | Dynamic, so you can count scans | The bill folder, receipts, the door on the way out |
| Ordering or booking | Dynamic | Takeaway bags, flyers, the window for after-hours visitors |
Your menu lives where it already does: a page on your website, your ordering system or a PDF on Google Drive or Dropbox. QRfinity makes the code that points to it.
How do I make a menu QR code I never have to reprint?
- Choose Dynamic in the generator on this page and paste your menu’s link.
- Add your logo and colours if you like. The scan check warns you before you download anything that might not scan.
- Save it to your free account and download it.
When the menu changes, either update it at the same link or point the code at the new one from your dashboard. The printed code stays the same, and changes are live within about a minute.
Breakfast and lunch on different menus? Add redirect rules so the same table code opens the right one by time of day. See QR code redirect rules.
Where should the codes go, and how big?
- Table tents and stickers: 3 to 4 cm wide is right for someone reading from their seat.
- Windows and walls: about one tenth of the distance people stand from it, so 30 cm for a sign read from 3 metres.
- Receipts and bill folders: at least 2 cm wide, printed dark on light paper. Thermal printers fade, so test an old receipt.
- Leave a blank margin around every code. Text or a table edge right against it is a common reason codes fail.
The print size guide has the full rule.
How many people scan the menu?
Every dynamic code has scan analytics: total and unique scans, the hours people scan, devices and countries, with up to 2 years of history. Give the patio its own code and you can see which area scans most, or when the lunch rush really starts. We don’t store anyone’s IP address.
Is it really free?
Yes. Unlimited static and dynamic codes, scan analytics, every design option, and PNG and JPG downloads cost nothing and never expire: there’s no trial that turns your menu off. Paid plans add print-ready SVG, PDF and EPS files and let more codes use advanced features such as redirect rules. See pricing.
