Yes, all three can make a QR code, but for different jobs. Chrome makes a plain code for the page you’re looking at. Canva adds codes to the designs you make there. ChatGPT can try to draw one, but the result needs checking before you trust it. For a code you’ll print, change later or want to track, a dedicated generator is still the safer choice.
Google Chrome
Chrome has a built-in QR code maker for the page you’re viewing. On a computer, click Share in the address bar and choose QR code, then Download. On Android and iPhone it’s in the Share menu.
Good for: quickly showing a page to someone across a table, or a one-off code for a web page.
Not for: anything other than a web page (Wi-Fi, contacts, payments), your own colours or logo, editing where it goes, or counting scans.
Canva
Canva can add QR codes to any design. It offers static codes and dynamic codes you can edit after printing. Its help pages put scan analytics and expiry dates on paid plans, and its English and Australian help pages list different plans for analytics.
Good for: a code that’s part of a Canva design you’re already making.
Check: which features your Canva plan includes, and what happens to dynamic codes if your plan changes or you delete them.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT makes images from a description. A QR code, though, has to be exact to the module: one wrong square in the wrong place and it won’t scan. An image model draws something that looks like a QR code, which may or may not be one.
If you use it: ask ChatGPT to make the code with a QR code library (for example, with Python) rather than to draw it, and scan the result with two phones before you print.
Not for: codes you’ll print in quantity, unless you’ve tested them.
When a dedicated generator is better
| You need | Chrome | Canva | ChatGPT | QRfinity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A quick code for a web page | Yes | Yes | Needs checking | Yes |
| Wi-Fi, contact, payment and other types | No | Check | Needs checking | Yes |
| Your colours and pattern | No | Yes | Needs checking | Yes, plus a logo and a frame |
| Change where it goes after printing | No | Yes | No | Yes, free |
| Scan counts | No | On paid plans | No | Yes, free |
| A scan check before you download | No | Check | No | Yes |
QRfinity makes static and dynamic codes, with design, scan counts and PNG and JPG downloads, free, and its codes never expire. Every design is checked as you make it, so you know it scans before you print. You can then place the code in Canva or any other design tool. Make a QR code.
